Picking your LED lights for a glofish tank isnโt particularly hard. There are two main factors thatโll drive your decision.
Will it be a planted or fish only-tank?
If itโs planted, you just need to make sure it provides enough PAR and if itโs a fish-only tank, youโre pretty much free to pick whatever fits your budget.
In this article, Iโll walk you through my favorite LED lights for planted and fish-only tanks.
Key Takeaways
- If you have a fish only tank, Iโd recommend going with the Cocoart light. It has a lot of cool features and color choices.
- If you want to run a planted tank, I highly recommend the Hygger light
Best Aquarium Lighting for Planted Glofish Tanks

Hygger Advanced LED Aquarium Light with Timer
Hands down, if you want to grow plants AND show off your GloFish, this is the one to go with. The blue LEDs on this light will make your GloFishโs colors pop.
It comes in a variety of sizes, so you can find the perfect fit for your tank. This light has little sliding legs that make the length adjustable. The legs are meant to sit on the outside edges of the tank.
Plants go CRAZY under this light. It has a super cool 24/7 setting that will cycle through dawn, daylight, sunset, blue moonlight and then a period of complete darkness.
You can also cycle through a variety of colors. The pure blue setting will definitely make your GloFish and fluorescent decorations look great.
Itโs easy to control from a little switch thatโs built right onto the wire.
Iโve used this light personally and had awesome results from it.
Hygger Clip On 24/7 Lighting Aquarium LED Light
This little Hygger light is great for smaller tanks. I have one clipped onto the side of a 10 gallon (39 liter) shrimp tank. You can change the color on the lights and set it to a strong blue that would really bring out the color in your GloFish.
Just like the bigger Hygger light, it has the nifty 24/7 setting, a dimmer and the different color settings, all set by a control thatโs on the wire.
Not only will it show off your GloFish, it also can seriously grow some plants.
BeamsWork DA FSPEC Gen2 LED Aquarium Light
The blue LEDs on this light will definitely help make your GloFish pop. The blues stay on even when itโs in โfull powerโ mode, helping to set off your fishโs color, even when the white lights are on.
The full blue mode is very vibrant, helping to showcase your fishโs color.
This is another great plant light. Iโve grown tons of lush plants with this one.
I love this light, BUT YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE YOU ORDER THE EXACT RIGHT SIZE!
The legs on this light can be adjusted a little bit, but not much.
This BeamsWork light has a built-in remote on the wire that has a dimmer and timer.
Nicrew ClassicLED Gen 2 Aquarium Light
Another great option for a lightly planted aquarium filled with Glofish is the Nicrew ClassicLED Gen 2 Aquarium Light. Itโs really affordable and highly efficient.
The model features white and blue LEDs that can work together or separately depending on the time of the day and the mood you want to set. The inline LED controller allows you to adjust the fixture to cast a deep blue light on your Glofish to make them sparkle at night time or merge the white and blue light for a more dazzling view at day.
Besides being able to convert your tank into a bright and vibrant home for your Glofish, this light does a great job of growing low-light plants.
Best GloFish Lights for Fish Only Tanks
Lets face it, not everyone is prepared to care for live aquarium plants. I personally love them, but not every aquarium enthusiast has the time or interest in them. So, here are some great lights if you only have fish in your tank.
GloFish Universal Aquarium Light with Blue LEDs for 30-Inch Tanks
This nifty little light fits a 20 gallon long (76 liter) tank and is meant to sit on top of a clear plastic or glass canopy.
It has three rows of bright blue LEDs to make your GloFish really stand out. Itโs a great way to view your fish and any fluorescent decorations you have in the tank.
Honestly, The way it highlights all the color changes that happen in the tank will never fail to draw a smile on your face, especially in low light conditions.
COVOART 15 inches LED Aquarium Light
If youโre looking for a light that you can put inside your aquarium, this Covoart LED bar is great.
It comes with a remote that will let you set it to a wide range of colors, including a brilliant blue that will really make your GloFish glow.
Itโs fully submersible, giving you a wide range of options for lighting your tank.
At full strength, itโs very, very bright, but no worries, you can dim the light down quite a bit using the remote.
Itโs got two large suction cups that make it super easy to install.
GloFish Universal LED Light
The model is good for 5-10 gallon tanks and includes blue lights only. It wonโt be your best choice if youโre looking for a fixture that produces lights with different color spectrums, but if blue light is whatโs on your mind, this one is great.
The 24 blue LEDs are capable of bringing the brilliant colors of your Glofish and producing a beautiful moonlight effect.
Like most of the products on my list, itโs not designed to stay inside the tank. However, with the help of the adjustable clips, it clamps onto the side of the tank, enabling a safe and secure fit.
Just be advised, this is meant to be used on a tank with a clear lid or no lid at all.
Itโs super easy to install whether you have a rimmed or rimless tank.
Picking Your Glofish Lighting
All in all, Iโm sure any of the aquarium lights mentioned above will be enough to add a brilliant pop of color to your Glofish tank.
If you have a fish-only tank, Iโd recommend going with the Cocoart light. It has a lot of cool features and color choices.
But, if you want to run a planted tank, I highly recommend the Hygger light. I have several of these and get spectacular plant growth using these lights. Hygger has become my favorite brand of light for planted tanks.
And finally, happy fishkeeping!
